Tila Housing Block
Project description:
The Tila Housing Block is a pilot project for the two-phased construction and neo-loft concept developed by Talli. The apartment building is based on the idea of providing residents with a 5 meter-high raw space with only the absolute minimum. The concept challenges the traditional model of apartments by giving residents the freedom to design and build their own home, which can be modified later along with changing needs and situations in life.
The dimensions and structure of the apartment allow for the occupants to build an upper-floor gallery and individual rooms. The neo-loft concept enables residents to live in the same apartment through many stages of their lives, which also means less turnover among residents. The building will naturally become communal – residents can get together for example to buy building materials. The whole building gets a self-built identity, which stenghtens further the sense of community.
The concept has also been used in our other projects such as As Oy Harkko and in 2018 was exhibited at the main exhibition of Biennale Architettura in Venice the theme of which was Freespace
