The Tila housing block is a pilot project for neo-loft apartments. The concept is based on an open construction system: within the available building frame the resident determines and builds the required subdivisions. A central factor in both the idea behind the project and its implementation has been the creative cooperation between different authorities. The basic loft unit of the Tila housing block is 100m2 space including two bathrooms. The residents can build individual rooms or expand their flat with gallery-type spaces, because the height of the main space is five metres.
The Valo housing block is based on the same concept of neo-loft apartments. The house will be realized in 2011 on the seashore of Helsinki in Toukoranta.
